THINGS TO Note

Daily Briefing
You are welcome to join us for the daily morning briefing at 10:00am at the Soaring Centre on the Omarama Airfield – but this is not essential.

Booking times
30 minutes flights may be booked from 9:00am each day. Longer flights usually take off in the early afternoon.

Weather
We do our best to operate to your scheduled times but you will appreciate that when flying without engines, the weather dictates exactly when and where we can operate and sometimes schedules go out the door!

On average the weather allows us to operate 6 out of 7 days per week.

Gliding conditions at Omarama are often at their best when local area scenic aeroplane and helicopter flights are cancelled due to weather. It is advisable to call the day before your flight to check on the weather. Where possible have some flexibility in your travel arrangements. There is excellent accommodation available at Omarama.

Nausea
Nausea or motion sickness associated with circling and the sensations of flight can be a problem for some people. If it’s your first time flying in a small aircraft or a glider we strongly recommend taking travel sickness tablets or using other anti-nausea devices especially for the longer flights. We can often extend your flying time in the air if requested.

Authority to Operate
Glide Omarama is a commercial member of Gliding New Zealand. Glide Omarama is approved (and audited) by Gliding New Zealand to operate Glider Flight Training, Instructor Training and Trial Flights under the Part 149 certificate issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand.
