Introductory Courses

Learn to fly!

Besides Trial Flights we offer the following courses and experiences for beginer glider pilots

  • Basic Course (see below) Our seven day course takes an absolute beginner through to their first solo flight.
  • Two Day Intro Course. This weekend course gives a taste of what is to come
  • Adventure Soaring Programme is ideal if you want to experience the joy of soaring without the emphasis on curcuit training and glider handling.

YGO and instructors

Basic Course.

Our basic gliding course is focused on you. It is a live-in total immersion course where you are the centre of our attention. You will not play second fiddle to activities such as tourist rides or other flights and your rate of progress is up to you and the weather.

This is what you get:

  • A challenge and a lot of fun,
  • Your personal highly experienced instructor.
  • A dedicated two seat training glider known as a Grob 103.
  • Unlimited glider flying hours.
  • A maximum group size of only two persons.
  • 30 aero-tow launches
  • Probable solo during the course - this does depend on the weather and your progress.
  • Seminars on all aspects of glider handling,
  • Several soaring flights into the mountains and talks on how to soar.
  • Great briefing facilities,
  • A log book, study manual and a syllabus.
  • On site accommodation (optional)
  • You will get to rub shoulders with highly experienced soaring enthusiasts

This is how it works:

  • Morning weather briefing at 10:00am.
  • You and your instructor plan the day, based on the weather.
  • Briefngs, seminars and flying.
  • Expect to fly from 1 to 5 hours each day.
  • Flying may continue until 7 pm or 8 pm on some days.
  • Evening debriefings over a beer.

The Cost:

One person ............NZ$5,850
Two persons...........NZ$4,450 each

The price includes:

  • 7 day course
  • Unlimited flying hours in the Grob 103
  • 30 aero tows
  • Your personal instructor
  • Log book, study manuals, ground school

Extras & refunds:

  • Glider flying hours refunded at $90 per hour if less than 8 hours flying achieved.
  • Extra aero tows at normal rates.
  • Accommodation and food not included but we can arrange an airfield chalets or caravans.

Post Solo Training

Any level of post solo training can be catered for in a five day Individual Private Course with your own personal instructor, a dedicated glider, seminars, lectures and mountain soaring opportunities. This is an opportunity to train for the completion of your C badges, cross country ratings, Silver C etc, in an organised manner without frustrating delays. In addition you will learn some fundamentals of mountain soaring.
