Learn to fly
Our basic Learn to Fly gliding course is focused on you. It is a live-in total immersion course where you are the centre of our attention. You will not play second fiddle to activities such as tourist rides or other flights and your rate of progress is up to you and the weather.
This is what you get:
a challenge and a lot of fun
your personal highly experienced instructor
a two seat training glider known as a Grob 103 dedicated to your use
unlimited glider flying hours.
a maximum group size of only two persons.
30 aero-tow launches
probable solo during the course - this does depend on the weather and your aptitude and progress
seminars on all aspects of glider handling
several soaring flights into the mountains and instruction on how to soar
great briefing facilities
a log book, study manual and a syllabus
on site accommodation (optional)
you will get to rub shoulders with highly experienced soaring enthusiasts.
This is how it works:
morning weather briefing at 10:00am
you and your instructor plan the day, based on the weather
briefngs, seminars and flying
expect to fly from 1 to 5 hours each day
flying may continue until 7 pm or 8 pm on some days
evening debriefings over refreshement.
The Schedule:
Every week from Sunday through Saturday
starting September 30, 2011 and finishing March 30, 2012.
Arrival day is normally the Saturday prior and departure the following Sunday for a total of eight nights.
No learn to fly courses are run through racing weeks. This season they are:
12 to 18 November 2011 - South Island Regional Championships
to 14 to 21 January 2011 - New Zealand National Championships
The Cost:
One person ............NZ$5,850
Two persons...........NZ$4,450 each
The price includes:
- 7 day course
- unlimited flying hours in the Grob 103
- 30 aero tows
- your personal instructor
- log book, study manuals, ground school.
Extras & refunds:
- Glider flying hours refunded at $90 per hour if less than 8 hours flying achieved.
- Extra aero tows at normal rates less 10%
- Accommodation and food not included but we can arrange an airfield chalet, hotel or caravan.
- Please not you will need a Gliding New Zealand Medical Certificate to attend this course.
