Task Week and "Lead & Follow" Course

Task Weeks are are run for small groups of single seater pilots who have already completed a Mountain Soaring Course. They fly tasks under the supervision and leadership of an instructor to consolidate their experience and extend their areas of familiarity.

A "Lead & Follow" Course is a week of single seat flying lead by your instructor - one pilot to one instructor.

Task Week

  • A scheduled five day week of supervised tasks with "lead and follow" opportunities.
  • A maximum of four pilots per instructor with one flying dual and the others in single seaters.
  • Prerequisite is a previous Mountain Soaring Course at or above Level 2 or extensive mountain experience in the Omarama area.
  • The objectives are to set and complete Mountain Soaring tasks and to have fun extending levels of experience and areas of familiarity. Flights can be expected to be adventurous and challenging with the opportunity on suitable days to do Diamond Height gains and 300 km to 1000km distance tasks.
  • Programme: Daily weather and task briefing and extensive debriefing.

Task Week Cost: NZ$2975 per person (min. 2 persons)

Includes:

  • An instructor in a Duo Discus for "lead and follow" for five days.
  • Weather briefings, task briefing and planning.
  • Daily debrief.
  • 6 nights Airfield Chalet accomodation.
  • Club membership.
  • Glider rental

Does not include:

  • Aero tows (including a share of your instructor's tows).
  • Possible retrieves.

Refunds:

  • In case of non flying due to bad weather either additional days in lieu will be offered or a refund of $250 per non flying day.

"Lead & Follow" Course

"Lead & Follow" courses may be scheduled any Monday to Friday.

  • One instructor to one client both flying single seaters
  • This may be the best way to consolidate your XC and Mountain soaring experience and to extend your range.
  • Suitable for pilots of any level experience from early XC to advanced.
  • Daily Tasks are set and flown and may include badge flights.

"Lead & Follow" Course Cost: NZ$5,250

Includes:

  • an instructor to lead in a single seater
  • glider rentals
  • Weather and Task briefings
  • debriefings
  • six nights accommodation.

Does not include:

  • Aero tows (including your instructors)
  • Possible retrieves.

Refunds:
